Giving parents a choice
Giving children a chance

The issue of educational alternatives has become important to efforts to provide the systemic and sustainable educational improvement that Baltimore’s school children desperately need. Research and experience demonstrate that empowering parents, especially economically disadvantaged parents who have traditionally had little or no influence over the public school system, significantly improves the quality of education and gives children greater opportunities for success.

CSFB strives to make school choice a genuine option for low-income families. It fulfills dreams for Baltimore city parents who equate learning with opportunity. CSFB families want what everyone wants for the students in their lives: safe, enriching, positive environments where knowledge, creativity, curiosity, and friendships are nurtured and flourish.

CSFB is the only need-based program in Baltimore that gives low-income families tuition assistance for their children to attend non-public schools. With average incomes of less than $26,000 CSFB families simply could not afford educational alternatives without our support. CSFB is proud to help these parents secure bright futures for their children.

Since 1998, CSFB has provided scholarships to more than 1000 children, but the need is much greater. The large number of families on our waiting list – more than 2000 – indicates that there is consistent and steadily increasing demand for the scholarship assistance that CSFB provides.
