Giving parents a choice
Giving children a chance

SELECTION:  In keeping with our philosophy that all children, of every ability and aptitude, deserve a chance at a quality education, selection for our scholarships is made at random.  Parents must put their names on the waiting list, and as funds become available we select families at random from the list.  Selection is by family rather than by child so that all siblings enjoy the same opportunity.

ELIGIBILITY:  We serve the children of Baltimore city residents only.  Believing that our donor’s funds are better spent giving more children a good start than by supporting fewer children through high school, we restrict our scholarships to students in grades kindergarten through eight.

SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNTS:  CSF Baltimore provides only partial scholarships.  Because parents should be genuinely in charge of their children’s education, we require even the poorest parents to pay at least $500 per year per child in order to be eligible for a scholarship.  Scholarship amounts are set on a sliding scale, at 25%, 50%, or 75% of the parents' tuition responsibility, based on per-person family income, up to a maximum (currently $2000 per year per child).  View the income eligibility table for details on this calculation.

SCHOOL ELIGIBILITY:  Parents may use their scholarships at any legally operating school that admits the child.  Decisions as to what schools the children attend are thus left to the parents and the schools.
